Sei mesi dopo avere lasciato i Buffalo Springfiels, Neil Young porta la sua chitarra alla Canterbury House di Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Era il 1968 e il concerto alla Canterbury House era quasi una prova per vedere se il pubblico avesse accettato Neil Young anche da solista. Tutti i dubbi furono immediatamente fugati alle prime note e così furono buttate le basi per quella carriera solista che continua ancora oggi.
"Sugar Mountan: live at Canterbury House 1968" viene pubblicato più di 40 anni dopo, altro capitolo di quelle ormai famose registrazioni note come le "Neil Young Archive Performances Series".
Le 23 tracce (di cui 13 canzoni) sono state registrate tra il 9 e 10 Novembre 1968 su un registratore TEAC a due piste e tenute in un cassetto finora.
